Gracie

Meet Gracie

Gracie is new in our program, and let's just say she has had a very hard, sad life before she came to RCHS.  Due to past injuries, RCHS is looking for a large pet bed for her that we feel will make it easier for her to get up and down.  If you have one you would be willing to donate, please email us at info@rchsks.org.  If you are interested in donating money so we can purchase her a bed, please use the google check out link below or you can send a check to our post office box.  We just want to give Gracie whatever we can to help make her comfortable during her recovery.

Her story is not for the light hearted, so please be advised before viewing.

Gracie is a 4 year old Bull Mastiff that weighs only 87 pounds.  For those of you not familiar with the breed, the average weight is around 110 lbs.  She ran away and ended up at the Junction City animal shelter.  Due to her condition, RCHS was asked to take her in to give her the one on one attention she requires.

It is very clear that Gracie's past owners did not care for her and treat her with the respect that all animals deserve.  In addition to malnutrition, Gracie's ears are tore up from the continual fly strikes. She had a vertebrae injury that was never treated, and thus it healed improperly.  Because of this, this sweet girl has trouble at times getting up and down and cannot go up and down stairs at all.  This is where we feel the pet bed will be beneficial.

If all of this wasn't bad enough, past owners attempted to brand her which you can see in the picture below.  In this picture, you can also see how emaciated she is.

Gracie also has entropion of both eyes, which often causes painful corneal ulcers or erosions. She is also being treated for whip and hook worms, and on a steroid / antibotic therapy to assist with the healing of her ears.  What is incredible is that even after all of these terrible things, she is a very sweet, loving girl who adores all the attention she can get.

When Gracie was signed over to the shelter, they were told to put her to sleep due to all her medical issues.  We just can't do that as she has been through so much, so we feel see deserves a chance at a good life.  Thus, we will do what we can to help her get the things she needs, and help her recover as much as possible.
