Felix - Will you donate so I can keep my leg?

03/22/2011 Update:

It seems things always have a way of working out, as we have great news regarding Felix.  We took him to a specialist in Kansas City to get an idea of what the best treatment would be for him.  The specialist took more detailed x-rays of the fracture, and discovered that the injury seems to be healing very well on its own. Felix will be monitored throughout the healing process to make sure his process continues.  We are so excited for Felix as this will be so much easier and faster for him to recover from and get back to being a puppy. The future is definitely looking bright for Felix.

Thank you all who have helped cover his medical costs.   Because of great people like you, we can help animals like Felix.  We will keep everyone up to date regarding this progress.

----------------

Hi!  My name is Felix.  I am a 4 month old, brittany spaniel / pit bull mix puppy.  The first 4 months of my life have been quite exciting so far.  I was taken to the animal shelter with my brother, but then it became too crowded.  Luckily, Riley County Humane Society rescued me from there along with my brother, Finn.

When I came to live with my new foster mom, she had two other larger dogs for Finn and me to play with.  One day, while the big dogs were playing, I tried to play with them.  I instead found myself in their running and wrestling path, and was knocked over and rolled.  When I got back up to continue to play with the other dogs, I noticed my leg hurt pretty bad.  The nice people at RCHS took me to the vet to have it checked out.  I had an x-ray to see how bad it was hurt, and that is when we found out that I fractured my growth plate (salter harris fracture  -  basically the outside of my elbow on the knuckle called a condyle).  The vet said there are two options for my leg:

1)  Surgery to pin or plate that part of my leg so it heals properly

2)  Amputation

RCHS and I want to save my leg so I can run and play again and do what puppies do.  To do this, we need to raise $1500 to cover the cost of my surgery.  As soon as we raise these funds, I can have my surgery, heal, and then get back to having fun.

Even though I am injured physically, I am still a carefree, sweet puppy who loves to give kisses, wrestle with the other dogs (without getting hurt), play with my toys, and cuddle up with anyone when it is time for nap.  I am not supposed to be very active so that I don't further my injury, but being a puppy makes that very hard to do.  I get depressed when my foster mom tells me I have to stop playing and take a rest.   I can't wait to be able to go on walks, go to the dog park, and maybe learn to swim.  However, that will not be possible until my leg is fixed and healed.  Also, I will not be able to find my forever home until I am all healed up.  I need your help to get my happily ever after with all 4 of my legs intact.

Won't you please help me?  Any donations no matter how big or small are welcomed, and I will greatly appreciate them.  I am hoping to be able to give loving puppy kisses at public events soon, and I will be sure to slather all who help me with lots of love.
